You will operate and support a variety of military land equipment as a Babcock HGV driving apprentice working in the Land Training department. The jobs are demanding and varied in an engaging setting, resulting in work that guarantees our customers, particularly the Army’s Royal Engineers, have dependable support services. We provide a variety of specialised positions in the driving and engineering construction fields, such as support for tactical training exercises in the field and operating sophisticated machinery on military training grounds.
Apprentices will first receive training for HGV 1 (licencing categories C+E), then for Passenger Transport (category D). They will have the chance to continue their training on specialised vehicles such cranes, plant machinery (JCBs), bridging tools, lorry mounted loaders, and other specialised vehicle types. Although the training is primarily practical, there is some theory involved in operating specialised equipment and on specialized terrain, as you might expect. The character is based on a military camp close to Aldershot, which houses the Royal Engineers’ Combat Engineer Training programme.
