Department Marketing Statement
The Capital Improvement Program team at WMATA is in need of numerous assistant project managers for the rail system’s mechanical, electrical, communications, train control, facility repair, adjacent construction, and station modernization projects. Projects include rehabilitating train stations, upgrading WMATA facilities, modernising rail signalling, upgrading fibre optic and radio communications, and improving tunnel ventilation. An ideal applicant would have knowledge of the whole lifecycle, including planning, budget, schedule, quality, implementation, close-out, and warranty, as well as expertise working on major, multimillion-dollar projects. A desired applicant has experience developing and implementing contracts for transit systems and projects in big, varied enterprises with outside government relationships.

Minimum Qualifications
Obtaining a Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, electrical engineering, architecture, planning, or a similar subject from an approved college or university A minimum of eight (8) years of experience that can be used to demonstrate increasing levels of responsibility in engineering, design, planning, architecture, or construction project management, preferably in the rail or transit sector; the ability to successfully negotiate with outside consultants; and the ability to manage a professional engineering team and other technical staff.
License
Unless the specific specialty does not require certification, registration as a professional engineer, architect, planner, or other related professional qualification is preferred.

Job Summary/Duties
Assistant Project Manager Job in Washington DC US
This is extremely responsible work that involves managing and supervising one or more assigned projects (s). For significant construction projects inside the Authority or having an impact on it, the incumbent will help with the planning, scheduling, and controlling of preliminary and final designs, construction, equipment procurement, and operational planning. The position holder oversees and coordinates the professional and technical staff’s performance in terms of inspection and technical work. While adhering to Authority rules, departmental guidelines, and procedures, the incumbent works with little oversight and refers any deviations to the Project Manager, Assistant Director, or Director.
Coordinates the evaluation of the scope of work for the final designs produced by General Consultants; creates independent cost estimates for the final design effort; and bargains for contracts with General Consultants to carry out the final design.
